On Sunday night, during a country music festival, 58 people were gunned down in cold blood. This is the story circulating constantly on all mainstream media outlets, 24/7. This attack was the deadliest mass shooting event in modern American history. This horrific headline came as a shock to Americans everywhere, as we all put aside our political beliefs, to come together as one America, in mourning.
At least most of us did. I'd like to preface this by saying that there is going to be a gun control debate and political changes made in lew of this event, but the day after is not the time to do it. Hillary Clinton went on twitter and said "The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots. Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get."Our grief isn't enough. We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA, and work together to try to stop this from happening again." -Hillary Clinton (@hillaryclinton). Come on; I can't be the only one to see the irony in this statement. How cold do you have to be to write this less than 24 hours after 58 people innocently lost their lives?
If you thought the lefts insensitivity stops there, you'd be wrong. CBS vice president and senior council Hayley Geftman-Gold were fired after posting her thoughts on the incident. “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing," She wrote on her Facebook page "I’m not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun-toters." She got what she deserved however as CBS promptly fired her, putting out a statement that read "This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS," "Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families."
I understand the gun control debate is inevitable, and I understand that we need to think about what we can do to stop terror like this in the future. Just please, can we take some time before we jump into bashing conservatives again.
